Introductory Motorcycle Experience(IME)

Not sure if riding a motorcycle is for you?  This is the course you are looking for.

A two-hour, first-touch motorcycle experience. Designed to familiarize you with a motorcycle’s primary parts and controls, and help you determine whether motorcycling is a good personal choice. You are given the opportunity to ride a motorcycle in a controlled area. This is an excellent way to explore motorcycling. (This is not a licensing course)

WHAT WILL I NEED TO REGISTER?

You'll need a valid automobile driver's license or learner's permit and have the ability to ride a bicycle. 

DO I NEED ANY SPECIAL GEAR?

You'll need to bring the following:

  • A heavy, long-sleeve shirt or jacket
  • Jeans, chaps, or leather pants
  • Over-the-ankle, sturdy footwear
  • Full-fingered gloves
  • A helmet that meets DOT requirements
  • Eyewear


NEW RIDER COURSE – WHAT TO EXPECT

When you take an MSF Basic Rider Course at Red River Harley-Davidson you’ll: 

  • Learn to ride on a genuine Harley-Davidson® motorcycle.
  • Get on-range instruction from Motorcycle Safety Foundation® (MSF) Coaches.
  • Learn to safely accelerate, shift, brake, and turn, along with maneuvers like controlling skids and surmounting obstacles.
  • Earn an MSF Basic RiderCourseSM  Completion Card, which may (varies by state) exempt you from the riding portion of your license exam and score you a discount on motorcycle insurance.

NEW RIDER COURSE FAQS

WHAT WILL I NEED TO REGISTER?

You'll need a valid automobile driver's license or learner's permit and have the ability to ride a bicycle. Once you have registered, you MUST complete an online portion.  A link will be sent to your email upon registration.

You'll need to bring the following:

  • A heavy, long-sleeve shirt or jacket
  • Jeans, chaps, or leather pants
  • Over-the-ankle, sturdy footwear
  • Full-fingered gloves
  • A helmet that meets DOT requirements

Riding Test

  • Must pass within State/MSF score guidelines.
  • Retest – If you receive a Failing score for the Riding Skill Test, you can contact Jack Small, with the Riding School, to schedule a retest.  This must be completed within 30 days from the first day of your original class.
  • Failed Retest – If you fail the retest, you will be required to retake the class in entirety, including the eCourse if beyond the 30 day certification period.



SKILLED RIDER COURSE – WHAT TO EXPECT

Designed solely for experienced riders, this eight-hour 1-day course is taught by dedicated Motorcycle Safety Foundation® (MSF) Coaches.

You’ll learn advanced tips and techniques to help you own the road.

  • Control at low speeds
  • Risk management
  • Limited-space maneuvers
  • Cornering judgment
  • Swerving and stopping quickly on straights and in curves
  • Multiple curve maneuvers and surmounting objects

When you’re done, you’ll not only ride with more confidence than ever, but you’ll also earn an MSF Basic RiderCourseSM 2 Completion Card which may (varies by state) exempt you from the riding portion of your license exam and may qualify you for a discount on motorcycle insurance.

  • A street-ready motorcycle
  • A valid driver's permit or license
  • Proof of valid motorcycle insurance

ADVANCED RIDER COURSE – WHAT TO EXPECT

Designed solely for experienced riders, this 1-day course is taught by dedicated Motorcycle Safety Foundation® (MSF) Coaches.

Discussion and riding drills designed to improve vital braking and cornering skills. Ideal for improving street skills or preparing for a track day.

  • Control at low speeds
  • Risk management
  • Limited-space maneuvers
  • Braking & Cornering Finesse
  • Crash avoidance skills
  • Multiple curve maneuvers

When you’re done, you’ll not only ride with more confidence than ever, but you’ll also earn an MSF Advanced Rider Course Completion Card which may qualify you for a discount on motorcycle insurance. (This is not a Licensing course)
